The Gold Standard: How Does it Work? Do We Need It? The gold standard is a monetary system in which the standard economic unit of account is a fixed weight of gold. There are distinct kinds of gold standard. First, the gold specie standard is a system in which the monetary unit is associated with circulating gold coins, or with the unit of value defined in terms of one particular circulating gold coin in conjunction with subsidiary coinage made from a less valuable metal. Similarly, the gold exchange standard typically does not involve the circulation of gold coins, instead using notes or coins made of silver or other metals, but where the authorities guarantee a fixed exchange rate with another country that is on the gold standard. This creates a de facto gold standard, in that the valu...

What systems are in place that determines why, for example, that it takes 7.8 Hong Kong dollars to buy 1 U.S dollar? This is the sixth lecture in the "International Finance" series in which I discuss "international monetary systems". We find out that different systems for determining exchange rates include a varying degree of market and Government forces. We also find out that there are advantages and disadvantages to these different systems. For example, some countries with a history of corruption, when they have the ability to print their own money, may have to give up this power to convince the rest of the world to take the risk and once again invest in their country. In my opinion, this is probably the most interesting lecture in the "International Finance" series. To me, it is fascina...

The film advocates the following actions for achieving social change: boycotting of the most powerful banks in the Federal Reserve System, the major news networks, the military, energy corporations, all political systems; and joining, and supporting The Zeitgeist Movement.

No, they’re not ingredients in some extremely unappetizing dish; in fact, they’ve all been used as a form of currency at some point in the course of human history. It might sound surprising to us today, since none of those things seem particularly valuable, but the history of money is a movement from trading stuff you can use, such as animal pelts to keep you warm, to trading stuff that’s symbolic, like the dollar bills you probably have in your wallet right now. Kiyosaki also went into the deep state effect on the Trump administration and how his friend Donald Trump can't actually change the realities of the coming fiat dollar crash. He also went into the fact that the public school system indoctrinates kids to know very little, pay taxes and invest long term in the stock market. When it comes to the future, Kiyosaki says the good thing is people will live longer and the bad news is, they will be living in a cardboard box as job automation takes over. This creates a de facto gold standard, in that the value of the silver coins has a fixed external value in terms of gold that is independent of the inherent silver value. Finally, the gold bullion standard is a system in which gold coins do not circulate, but in which the authorities have agreed to sell gold bullion on demand at a fixed price in exchange for the circulating currency. No country currently uses the gold standard as the basis of its monetary system, although several hold substantial gold reserves. (from Wikipedia) There are strong arguments for and against the gold standard. Others say that neither the Federal Reserve OR the gold standard should exist, and that instead, the U.S. Treasury itself should control the currency supply by issuing a Greenback currency (rather than the PRIVATE Federal Reserve Bank). This position's case has been well made in the documentary film "The Secret of Oz" by Bill Still. To me, it is fascinating to discuss and analyze where economic and political forces conflict and how sometimes the market (or the people) can be the ultimate disciplining factor. Having said this, as always, the goal is not to try to get you to take a particular side, but rather for you to understand (logically, not emotionally) different sides of an issue, and then you make up your own mind.

suggests that the primary reason for what the film sees as society's social values ("warfare, corruption, oppressive laws, social stratification, irrelevant superstitions, environmental destruction, and a despotic, socially indifferent, profit oriented ruling class") is a collective ignorance of "the emergent and symbiotic aspects of natural law". The film advocates the following actions for achieving social change: boycotting of the most powerful banks in the Federal Reserve System, the major news networks, the military, energy corporations, all political systems; and joining, and supporting The Zeitgeist Movement.

The many odd and surprising forms of currency. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO What do red squirrels, salt, cocoa beans, and parmesan cheese have in common? No, they’re not ingredients in some extremely unappetizing dish; in fact, they’ve all been used as a form of currency at some point in the course of human history. It might sound surprising to us today, since none of those things seem particularly valuable, but the history of money is a movement from trading stuff you can use, such as animal pelts to keep you warm, to trading stuff that’s symbolic, like the dollar bills you probably have in your wallet right now.
